LP Donation Enables Firefighters To Drill
Once every three years, the Rescue & Firefighting Service at Morristown (NJ) Airport hosts a week-long series of training exercises that involves the use of a mobile training simulator operated by the state of West Virginia. The simulator is equipped to create realistic, “hands-on” training situations – including interior, exterior and spill-related fires – but it needs propane to operate. That’s where Suburban Propane comes in.
For the past three series of exercises, dating back to 2004, Suburban Propane has donated the propane that Morristown Airport uses as part of their drills – not only for the airport-based service itself, but for the paid and volunteer firefighting companies from the surrounding communities. Three drills a day are conducted, including a “super” drill on Friday evening that involves 13 EMS units as well. “One of the reasons we conduct this training,” says Airport Fire Chief Doug Reighard, “other than that we’re required to do it, is that it unifies our command with our local companies. We couldn’t do this without the help Suburban Propane provides, and we’re very grateful for their generosity.”
