Grilled Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

Let’s celebrate National Peanut Day by elevating the childhood classic peanut butter and jelly.

Instead of grabbing peanut butter and jelly and spreading it on white bread, put the knife down and check out a few ways to glow up this American classic:

1.  Get spicy. Adding spice can help balance out the sweetness of the jelly. Add a drizzle of hot sauce, Sriracha, or even a jalapeno jelly instead of fruit jelly.

2. Beyond basic bread. Leave the white bread behind and venture over to the baking department. Sourdough, seven-grain, ciabatta, or rye add a different texture and taste. You can even use banana bread!

3. Go nuts. Peanut butter comes in so many amazing flavors these days. Pick up a jar of honey nut, butterscotch, chocolate, or cappuccino. Try alternative nut/seed butters like almond, cashew, and sunflower.

4. Heat it up. Our recipe today features a Grilled Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich. Grilling your PB&J maximizes the yummy gooeyness of the peanut butter and jelly, and it toasts the bread creating a crunchy exterior.

Grilled Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

Equipment

  • 1 Propane Stove

Ingredients
  

  • 2 slices Bread of choice
  • 2 tbsp Peanut butter of choice Or any nut butter
  • 1 tbsp Jelly of choice
  • 2 tsp Butter softened

Instructions
 

  • Heat a large skillet on a propane stove to medium-low heat.
  • Spread peanut butter onto one slice of bread.
  • Spread jelly onto the other slice of bread.
  • Spread 1 teaspoon of softened butter onto the outside of each slice of bread.
  • Combine the two slices with peanut butter and jelly meeting in the middle.
  • Place sandwich into skillet, turning once 4-6 minutes or until bread is golden brown and peanut butter is melted.
  • Remove from heat, slice in half, and serve.
